HHS OFFERS PRESENTATION
Depression and suicide are at an all time high among our children across America. Rod Tappe is a retired, 30 year veteran police officer from the Union Police Department. Rod was assigned as a school resource officer at Union High School at the time Rod lost his son Hank, age 16, to suicide on August 21, 2013. Hank gave in to his battle with depression. Since Hank’s death, Rod has shared Hank’s story throughout Franklin County and parts of the State of Missouri at schools, and medical facilities. His compelling story has had positive reactions to school environments, and has created hope for those who struggle daily. Rod’s focus is not on his son’s death, but the depression leading to it. Rod’s presentation gives a parents perspective to depression and suicide. Depression is bigger than all of us and suicide is the most preventable cause of death. Our children are facing many obstacles in their life every day. They need to understand there is always “HOPE” for change. Rod challenges those in attendance to open the door to let light in, and bring “HOPE” into others lives.
