In the fall of 2007, Hermann High School began the process to seek designation from DESE as an A+ School.  The Class of 2010 was the first HHS graduates eligible for A+ reimbursement.  All students are eligible to sign up for the A+ Program (must sign up by the end of the first semester of your senior year) if they meet the requirements listed below.

A+ Program Overview

The A+ Program was started by the Outstanding Schools Act of 1993 as an incentive for improving Missouri's high schools.  

Goals of the A+ Program

-All students graduate high school

-All students complete high school studies that are challenging and that have identified learner expectation

-All students proceed from high school to college, post-secondary vocational/technical school, or a high wage job

Participating High Schools are encouraged to:

-Reduce the drop out rate

-Raise academic expectations by eliminating general track courses

-Provide career pathways for all students

-Work closely with business and educational leaders to better prepare students for their lives after graduation

Student Eligibility:

• Enter into a written agreement with Hermann High School prior to graduation
• Attend an A+ designated high school for three consecutive years immediately prior to graduation
• Graduate with an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale (grades 9-12)
• Score Advanced or Proficient on the Algebra I EOC Exam or complete 1 semester as a full-time student at a community college or technical school and attain a 2.5 GPA (beginning with the class of 2015)
• Have an overall attendance rate of 95% or higher (grades 9-12)
• Perform and document 50 hours of unpaid, district supervised tutoring and mentoring, (as of 2011-2012, 25% or 12.5 hours of this time may be completed in a job shadowing setting, see A+ handbook for more information)
• Maintain a record of good citizenship and avoid the unlawful use/possession of drugs and alcohol
• Make a good faith effort to secure federal aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
• Register with the Selective Service (males only)

On-going Eligibility:

• Attend a public community college or vocational/technical school on a full time basis
• Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
• Make a good faith effort to secure federal aid by completing the FAFSA each year.

Students who meet or exceed these requirements will be eligible for two years of tuition reimbursement at a Missouri public community college or vocational/technical school.  A student is eligible to access the A+ funds for 4 years after their graduation date.  The funds are meant to reimburse eligible students for unpaid tuition and general fees after any federal aid has already been applied.

*In order for a student to access funds, funds must be made available for the program by the Missouri General Assembly.
